nternships and co-ops provide an opportunity to gain professionally - supervised work experience in industry, business, or government while earning college credit.
- Students work in a career-related professional setting.
- Students' work duties are planned and monitored.
- Students are supervised by site supervisors and monitored by faculty.
- Students perform management-oriented work duties.
Requirements for internships and co-ops (TEC 398) are:
- Internship:
Internships last a minimum of 8 weeks, with students earning one credit hour for each 40 hours on the job.
- Co-op: Each work term lasts a minimum of 8 weeks, with students earning one credit four for each 40 hours on the job. There is a 3-work term minimum for co-ops.
Prerequisites for internships:
- Be a TEC major
- Complete 30 hours of college coursework
- Complete 12 hours of college coursework at Illinois State
- Overall and major GPA of 2.5
- Have completed your required TEC 100-series courses
- Complete 3 hours of 200/300 level courses in your TEC sequence
Prerequisites for Co-ops
- Be a TEC major
- Complete at least two semesters of Illinois State coursework
- Have completed your required TEC 100-series courses
- Have an overall and major GPA of 2.5
Credit for TEC 398
Starting in the Fall of 2002 TEC 398 will be graded with either a credit or no credit. No grades will be assigned. The course may be repeated for a total of 16 hours.

To apply for TEC 398 and to obtain more information, print the 398 Manual (pdf), which is also located on the on the student share drive. All necessary information about requirements during the internship process are in the manual, as well as the necessary forms.
Submit your resume and the completed application form to Cathy McKay, Academic Advisor for the Department of Technology. Obtain two (2) TEC faculty recommendations using forms found in the manual. Note that one of these recommendations must be by a faculty member from your sequence.
