he primary purpose of academic advising in the Department of Technology is to assist students in the development of their plans of study that are compatible with their career aspirations.

In the Department of Technology, academic advising is based on shared responsibility between student and advisor. We believe academic advising is a collaborative process, and ultimately, you -- the student -- are responsible for your educaitonal experience.

Expectations of Students

Students are responsible for knowing and fulfilling all university, college and major requirements for graduation. In order to meet that goal, they are responsible for:

  • scheduling regular appointments with their advisor each semester
  • coming to the appointment prepared with questions and/or topics to discuss
  • reviewing degree requirements each semester
  • seeking advisement when in academic difficulty
  • keeping a record of your academic progress and goals

Expectations of Advisors

  • assist students in developing a plan of study consistent with the student's goals
  • provide accurate information about Illinois State University's policies, procedures, resources, and programs necessary for graduation
  • assist students with evaluation of their progress towards degree
  • encourage students to be self directed learners
  • be available for appointments on a regular basis
  • maintain confidentiality

Advisors are available by phone or email for simple questions; otherwise, please make an appointment.

Appointments

Advisors are available by appointment. Sign up at the reception desk, Turner Hall, room 210 or phone 438-3661.

Please come to your appointment with pens, paper, any academic records showing classes you have taken elsewhere, questions that you have a a current Academic Progress Summary. The summary is available in Moulton Hall, room 107 with your student I.D. The summary should be picked up at least once every semester and shows courses the student has left to complete and other graduation requirements.
