Construction Management (CM) students require a broad background in construction methods and materials, project management, and business administration. The CM program is designed to prepare students for all facets of the commercial and residential building construction industry.
Construction Management is an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides students a background in construction management, administration, and technology; architectural and engineering principles; business; and applied science and mathematics. The goal of the sequence is to prepare construction professionals capable of managing projects to completion from plans prepared by design professionals. Course work emphasizes the allocation and coordination of labor, equipment, and material in order to achieve completion of projects safely and at maximum efficiency of time and cost. The program focus is on production rather than design, and management capabilities rather than craft skills.
Graduates of the construction management program are actively recruited for leadership roles with general and specialty contractors for residential and commercial construction. Initial placement positions include the following:
Salaries vary from urban, suburban, and rural positions; however, the average starting salary is $45,000 with a range of upper 30's to low 50's.
Most have found positions before graduation with 99 percent placement within 3 months of graduation.
